Why Holiday Photos are Worth Every Chaotic, Wonderful Moment

Families

There's a particular kind of magic that happens this time of year. The house smells like pine and cinnamon. The kids are bouncing off the walls, sugared up and sparkle-eyed. And somewhere in the middle of all that beautiful chaos, you pull everyone together for a photo.

We live so much of our lives in forward motion. The holidays are one of the rare moments when we actually stop and gather. Those moments deserve to be documented not just in your memory, but in a way you can hold onto.

I talk to a lot of families after their sessions, and one thing I hear over and over is some version of "I'm so glad we finally did this." Not because the photos were perfect. But because three years later, the kids are taller, a grandparent is gone, and that one photo on the mantle holds an entire world inside it.

That's what a core memory looks like when it has a face.

A Gift That Outlives the Season

Here's something I want every parent to hear: printed holiday photos are one of the most meaningful gifts you can give a grandparent. Not a gift card. Not a candle. A 5x7 of their grandkids grinning in matching pajamas, matted and framed and sitting on their nightstand.

Grandparents don't need more things. They need more moments — and when the real ones can't happen as often as everyone wishes, a photograph fills that space in a way nothing else can. It says we thought of you, we wanted you to see this, you are part of this family's story.

If you're looking for a holiday gift idea that genuinely lands every single time, there it is.

The Only Regret Is Not Doing It

Years from now, you won't look back and wish you had fewer photos of your family together. You're going to pull out the album, or scroll through the folder, or look at the frame on the wall — and feel grateful for that season of life.

This holiday season, make it happen.

Whether you book a session with me, another photographer you love or you set up a tripod in your living room and hit the self-timer — gather your people and take the photo. The imperfect, real, beautiful photo.

You won't regret it.

Book Your Holiday Mini Session — Right in the Heart of Indy

If the thought of a long, formal photo session makes your shoulders tense up, I have good news: you don't need that.

My holiday mini sessions are just 15 minutes — in and out, done before anyone has a meltdown. They're held at my studio inside The Stutz building in Downtown Indianapolis, one of the most beautiful creative spaces in the city. We'll have a curated holiday setup ready to go, so all you have to do is show up, smile, and let me take care of the rest.

Mini sessions were practically made for families with kids. Short, focused, and low-pressure — kids stay engaged, parents stay sane, and we still walk away with photos you'll cherish for years.

And here's the fun part: make it a full family day out. The Stutz is right in the middle of everything Downtown Indy has to offer. Before or after your session, you could:

  • Explore the Indiana State Museum — endlessly fascinating for curious kids and adults alike

  • Check out Jingle Rails at the Eiteljorg Museum, a beloved holiday tradition for Indianapolis families

  • Head to the Indianapolis Zoo for their seasonal events

Turn a 15-minute photo session into a full day of holiday memories — and come home with photos to prove it.

Spots are limited and they go fast!
